Programs BSSC offers a wide range of programming beginning at 6 years of age and continuing through to seniors. As a complement to swimming lessons, our innovative synchronized swimming programs offer fun recreational activity and an introduction to a unique and challenging sport. Burlington Synchro offers recreational programs from the end of September to May. These programs are open to swimmers from 6 years on who have achieved Red Cross Swim Kids Level 5. Swimmers are taught a progressive course of synchronized swimming skills following Synchro Canada’s ability based system. Swimmers will learn the necessary skills in order to achieve synchro star levels, and will be awarded star pins upon completion. Instruction occurs in a team environment. Teams can consist of up to 8 swimmers. Experienced groups will learn choreographed routines set to music for presentation at water shows and recreational competitions. AquaSquirts is a play-based, water orientation program that helps develop swimming skills for girls 6-8 years of age. AquaSquirts involves fun in the water –jumping, rolling, spinning, twisting, and turning upside down. Swimmers will work on comfort in shallow and deep water, develop body awareness, breath control, learn about water sports, use their imagination, creativity, and participate as a member of a group. Aqua-Squirts classes are 30 minutes in length and run weekly for 10 weeks. Beginner 1/2/3 are programs run in 10 week sessions for girls new to synchro or swimmers who have not yet passed their Star 1 and Pansy Forbes Award. Beginner serves as an introduction to the sport where swimmers will be taught basic skills and in Beginner 3, will learn a routine to music. Weekly practices are 1 hour in length. Intermediate is for swimmers with some experience and who have passed their Star 1 pin. Swimmers will continue to work on basic skills introduced in beginner while learning many new skills and learning a choreographed routine to music. Swimmers will participate in 2 club water shows and the Rec Extravaganza. This program is 1 hour per week and runs from September to May. Advanced is for swimmers with at least one year experience and who have achieved their Star 3 pin. Swimmers will be challenged to develop new, more difficult skills while polishing up the basics. Swimmers will learn a choreographed routine to music which they will perform in 2 club watershows and the Rec Extravaganza. Weekly practices are 1.5 hours in length and run from September to May. Pre-Competitive is for swimmers interested in learning more about synchro as a competitive sport. Swimmers will learn basic technical skills, routine skills and competition preparation. Swimmers will prepare for and participate in four recreational level competitions, including the Rec Extravaganza. They will also participate in 2 club watershows. Practices are 1.5 hours in length and also this program runs from Sept –June. Adult Beginner 1/2/3 are programs run in 10 week sessions for women aged 18 and older who are new to synchro or may have a daughter or other family member enrolled in the sport and want to learn more. Beginner serves as an introduction to the sport where swimmers will be taught basic skills and in Beginner 3, will learn a routine to music. Improving aspects of fitness including flexibility, strength and endurance are key focuses of this program. Weekly practices are 1 hour in length. Competitive Teams, Tiers 1-7 and Masters BSSC offers competitive programs at the provincial, national, and masters’ levels which are based on Synchro Canada’s ability based system. With swimmers in tiers 1-7, BSSC provides programming to meet the needs of all athletes. Teams and extra routines (solo/duet/combo) are offered to swimmers in eligible tier levels.
